Behind the Scenes: How we became a Detroit Food Blogger
So why would someone take their time to blog what they eat? Many foodies like taking pictures of their food. But why share beyond that instagram or facebook post?

It all started with a single dish from an italian restaurant on a trip to Deerfield Beach, Florida with my teenage kids and their friend. We were not familiar with the area, but wanted a good italian (family favorite) meal. We made a reservation at a random Italian place and were on our way when a crowded restaurant Luigi Di Roma, in a strip mall off of Federal Highway, with live music pouring out the open windows, caught our attention. Given our love for live music, we decided to try to procure a table. We were sat right away and started with two appetizers: Calamari Fritti (Family size) which had pepperoncini and a marinara sauce, and the Italian Feast (Family size) which had italian and chicken meatballs, housemade sausage, eggplant pancakes, fried peppers, and house ricotta. Having three big appetite, starving teenagers it made sense to order the famly size. But boy did we underestimate the size of these enormous platters. The family size was a true Italian family size and would likely feed more than 6 people. We had not ordered our entrees yet when the appetizers were presented, and given the amount of food delivered to the table, I decided to change my order and just have the Fettuccini Alfredo. I had already sampled calamari, meatballs, sausage, among the others and thought a simple dish would do. This dish was anything but simple. This was singlehandedly the best Fettuccini Alfredo that I had ever tasted. The sauce was thick and creamy without being too thick. It had the right amount of salty nuttiness that clearly came from using quality parmesan cheese (I absolutely love a good crystally, nutty aged parmesan and serve it regularly on my charcuterie boards). Every bite was a delight which made it hard not to moan in an embarrassing display of ecstasy. We were flying back to Detroit, Michigan the next morning making it completely inconvenient to take back the rest of the generous portion, but I still took the leftovers back to the rental house. Carefully placed the remains in a baggie to take home on the plane. Not something that I would normally attempt. But it was that good!

Since coming back from that trip over two years ago, I have been on the search for an Italian restaurant in Metro Detroit that could match the flavor and quality of that alfredo. That's where my friend of 42 years, Dan, my blogging cohort, came into the picture. He was up for the challenge of helping me find this great Italian dish locally. Our tour of Italy around Detroit began. As of this writing, we are still yet to find a worthy comparison. There are great runners-up, but so far none has matched the exceptional quality of Luigi Di Roma's Fettuccini Alfredo. However, our quest allowed us to sample many local favorite Italian restaurants in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs. It seemed selfish to keep our findings to ourselves. So thus, the beginning of blogging. Our goal is to help others find delicious food. Personally, I am incredibly picky on quality food. I typically do not like restaurants that are chains. I think food on cruises are sub-par food trying to pass as quality dishes. We are not looking to review the fine dining establishments that already receive attention and accolades by the professionals. We are looking to review and present above average, moderately priced establishments that are worthy of trying and are in reach of most budgets. From the well respected to the hidden gems.
